Making Tea
Preparing tea varies hugely from the complexities and refinement of Chinese & Japanese 'Cha Dao', where years of training are necessary to fully understand the nuances of tea. Gong Fu Cha Yi is much more than just a way to prepare tea but an understanding of nature and elegance. The opposite end of the spectrum is the simple and convenient use of a tea cup or very commonly in day to day China, a jam jar!
Over the years we have expended the number of methods and as time goes by we will add other pages on the styles and ways of tea. Suggestions are welcomed. We would be very interested in some pictures and content of African and Middle Eastern tea consumption!
Descriptions available on Wan Ling's site include, our original page giving an outline of preparing tea in the traditional method of An Xi, using a Gai Wan which is the basis for Chinese Cha Dao. A newer page which introduces a common method when tasting and sampling a range of Oolong teas, using an open bowl with a spoon. This method we have added under our 'Modern' making tea page.
For those interested in the wonderful Zi Sha clay tea pots of Yi Xing will be happy to see our page outlining the preparation of a Pu Er tea. Remember Pu Er is only used here as an example. Zi Sha tea pots also are popular in the preparation of all Chinese teas especially Oolongs.
New pages have been added covering the British & Indian ways of using a ceramic tea pot. This page is ideal for those who love Darjeeling, Assam, African and many other popular teas in Europe and America.
Our final pages include preparing Chinese green tea in a mug, along with a page covering Indian Chai, Tibetan milk tea
We hope these pages give you some ideas and also enhance your understanding of how tea is enjoyed around the world.
